Artist Statement
I have studied nature for as long as I can remember. My parents and grandparents taught me to respect nature and encouraged me find the joy and serenity in the colors and textures nature can produce.
As a student I enjoyed painting subjects found in nature. I started painting with oils in college and found the texture gratifying. I was able to create rich deep tints and tones while blending colors in oil.
This collection of work is centered on animals, plants or places that bring me joy. I think my paintings show the curiosity of the cat, the grace of a koi, and the rhythmic swaying of flowers in a field. These paintings reflect my inspiration through nature, and I hope the feeling resonates with the audience.
I work primarily in oils although I do use acrylic and was trained in watercolor for eight years. I currently work from my home studio in Summerville, South Carolina and find inspiration through things found in nature, from landscapes to animals to the fine hairs on the stem of a Poppy.
I try to capture the beauty of nature and animals that live in it, hoping to introduce the viewer to the small details they have not noticed before.
